Thomas Harvey Johnston (1881-1951)
Born Sydney. D.SC. (Sydney) 1910. Assistant Microbiologist, Bureau of Microbiology, Sydney. Foundation lecturer-in-charge, Department of Biology, University of Queenalnd 1911, first Professor of Biology 1919-21. Professor of Zoology, Univ. of Qld 1922-51. Distinguished teacher and parsitologist (299 papers mainly on cestodes and trematodes of Australian fauna). Chairman, Queensland Prickly Pear Travelling Commission 1912-14, which succesfully introduced Dactylopius and unsuccessfully introduced Cactoblastis. Controller of Commonwealth Prickly Pear Labs 1920-22, founded Sherwood laboratory. Chief zoologist, British Australian and New Zealand Antarctica Research Expedition 1929. Queensland studies included cattle tick, blowflies, muscids, onchoceriasis and fish epidemics.
