Rowland Illidge (1846-1929)
Came to Brisbane 1859. School teacher and insurance writer. Protégé of Silvester Diggles, mentor of F.P. Dodd and L. Franzen. A noteable collecor and student of life histories of Lepidoptera and Coleoptera, publishing many papers. His butterfies went to T.P. Lucas and then to the South Australian Museum. His sons presented his beetles to the Dept. of Entomology, University of Queensland. A founder of Ent. Soc. Qld (1923) and of Qld Naturalists' Club (1906). Also a distinguished ornithologist. The photo was taken in wallum country about 1920.
